Abstract

A maximum age of at least 17.7 years was recorded for a Galápagos Penguin Spheniscus mendiculus on Isabela Island during studies in 2018. This individual was first captured as an adult of at least two years of age, as indicated by its plumage. In addition, we present records of other penguins, not quite as old, that were first captured as chicks. Longevity is affected by many different factors, making it useful in the design of conservation strategies.
